Public Education and Corruption Prevention

The Public Education and Corruption Prevention Division (PECPD) draws its mandate from Section 6 of the Prevention of Corruption and Economic Offences Act No.5 of 1999, as amended. The Division’s operational programme covers four main areas, namely:

  • Public Education: sensitizing and educating the public against the evils of corruption thereby enlisting and fostering public support in the fight against corruption and economic crime.
  • Corruption Prevention: Examining the operational systems of institutions with the view to identifying opportunities for the corrupt practices and recommending appropriate remedies to strengthen the systems against corruption.
  • Research: Undertaking anti-corruption research to study corruption related problems scientifically and recommend appropriate action.
  • Publicity: As an accountable institution, the Directorate is keeping the public informed of all activities that require public attention, and this in itself contributes immensely in deterring corrupt practices.
