RETIRED ADMINISTRATION OFFICER SENTENCED FOR CORRUPTION

MASERU-A retired senior administration officer at His Majesty’s Office, Mrs. Mats’eliso Mabuea, has been convicted and sentenced in connection with a corruption case involving unlawful awarding of tenders and accepting bribes. Mrs. Mabuea appeared before Magistrate Moopisa on Monday, 9 June 2025, where she faced charges related to two tenders awarded in 2017 to Shames Pty Ltd without following proper procurement procedures. These tenders valued M70, 463.76 and M90,000.00 respectively. Evidence presented in court revealed that Mrs. Mabuea deliberately bypassed procurement laws and accepted a bribe of M30,000.00 as a kickback for awarding the contracts. The court described her action as well-planned, noting that she showed no remorse and had abused the trust and authority vested in her office at the Royal Palace. Consequently, Mrs Mabuea was then sentenced to 18 years imprisonment or a fine of M36,000.00 of which she opted to pay it.
