Two Maputsoe Clerks of Court Face Corruption Charges

Two Clerks of Court from the Maputsoe Local Court have been charged with corruption and are appearing before the Leribe Magistrate Court in connection with (8) counts of corruption, (4) counts of fraud and (2) counts of theft.

The accused, ‘Mamatli Mokaeane (45) and Lefehlo Mokitlane (40), are alleged to have stolen money from both the government and members of the public in April 2024. The two allegedly collected court fines from the public, issued fake receipts, and failed to account for the money.

They are further accused of soliciting and receiving bribes through Mpesa, a practice that was used to conceal the illegal transactions.The charges form part of ongoing efforts by authorities to curb corruption within public institutions.

Both accused appeared in court where bail was granted of M1,000.00 and surety of M20,000.00.
