Mohale’s Hoek- The Directorate on Corruption and economic Offences (DCEO) in the Southern Region recently held a three-day workshop for civil servants and members of the private sector. Officially opening the workshop, Southern Regional Manager Mr Shoaepane Robert Mokabe said the rate of corruption remains alarmingly high across all the ministries.
He stated that this workshop forms part of DCEO’s efforts to prevent and combat corruption through public education and institutional capacity building. He further noted with concern that some individuals engage in corrupt activities due to lack of knowledge, while others are pressured by their superiors to do so.
Mr Mokabe urged civil servants to stop allowing themselves to be used by their managers to carry out corrupt practices and encouraged them to always uphold ethics and integrity. He emphasized that honesty and accountability are essential in both public and private service. Similar workshops will continue in Quthing and Qacha’s Nek in the coming weeks.
